Who We Are

History
In July 2000, Ernie de Vega and his family held their first church service in their Virginia Beach home with two other families. From these humble beginnings, the vision that God planted in Ernie’s heart was born. That vision was 1) to see the multitudes repent and come to Christ, 2) to see believers turned into effective disciples, and then 3) to send them forth for ministry and missions.

Over the next year, God began sending more families - families who were tired of religion and desired something more. Miracles followed. Cancers and sicknesses were healed; marriages and other broken relationships were restored.

By the time Life Church celebrated its first year anniversary, the fledgling congregation could no longer fit in the de Vega’s home.

Life Church has been outgrowing buildings ever since.

By November 2004, Life Church had outgrown its third building and was looking for, yet, another meeting place. Our search ended when the Lord led us to our present location on Virginia Beach Blvd.

However, Life Church’s growth is not just limited to Virginia Beach. During several mission trips to the Philippines in 2006 and 2007, Life Church adopted several satellite churches there. The vision to to plant other churches was now expanding into other parts of the world.

Since that humble first service in 2000, Life Church continues to experience quantitative and qualitative growth by creating a diverse family atmosphere that loves the Lord whole-heartedly. We recently launched a second Sunday service, and it won’t be long before we outgrow our building again. These are “good” problems.

What began with two families has now grown to nearly 100 families who worship every week in VA Beach and the Philippines. Praise be to God!

The growth and health of Life Church has been attributed to a church-based discipleship strategy inspired by Ephesians 4:12. Through this strategy, Life Church equips and empowers small group discipleship leaders who meet weekly in coffee shops, homes, and offices all over the city for Bible study, prayer, and fellowship.
